Two drones worth a total $16,000 and contraband police allege was meant to be delivered inside the walls of Collins Bay Institution – have been seized by police. Investigators estimate the good were worth $23 thousand dollars in the cellblock.
Authorities knew something was up when an off-duty member of the OPP-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad saw suspicious activity in the area of the Collins Bay Institution. A male and female were seen leaving the area in a vehicle.
Police in Kingston found the suspect vehicle and put it under surveillance.
Later in the day drone activity was observed by the owners of a business near the prison. They attempt to detain two people but let them go when threats were made.
Later police saw the suspect vehicle again in Kingston and arrested two people – both from Montreal. Both were charged with attempt to smuggling contraband into the prison. One of the accused is facing a weapons related charge.
