It’s National Blood Donor Week, and Canadian Blood Services want to thank all donors who have consistently shown up to donate.
Even throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, they did not see a major decrease in donors coming to their clinics. Many safety measures have been put in place by CBS to protect their staff and donors who come in. They have implemented extra cleaning before and after a donation, and have decreased the amount of appointments they can take in an hour. They are also no longer taking walk-in’s, only donations by appointment.
myFM spoke with Debbi Barfoot, a local Territory Manager with Canadian Blood Services, about National Blood Donor Week.
Barfoot says that thanks to all of their donors there is definitely enough blood on the shelves to meet patients needs today.
CBS are grateful for all of their regular donors, but are always welcoming new ones. Barfoot recommends that every donor should bring a friend or family member to also donate.
Canadian Blood Services are in Napanee every other month. Their next event is scheduled on Friday July 23rd. You can go to blood.ca to check appointment availability and make your appointment to donate blood and save lives.
