Sir John A. Macdonald’s place in local history is receiving some high level review this week.
The Sir John A. History and Legacy Working Group meets this afternoon (Monday, June 14) to organize feedback and make suggestions to City Council about how to respond to concerns about continuing to have his statue in City Park.
On Wednesday, June 16, a special meeting of Kingston City Council will be held to consider the input gathered by the working group.
The discovery of 215 unmarked graves of children at a former residential school in British Columbia continues to fan controversy over Macdonald’s involvement in the residential school system and the treatment of Indigenous people under his watch.
