A update was given to Lennox and Addington County Council at this weeks council meeting from the Eastern Ontario Regional Network and Rogers Media about their Cell Gap Project. This project is to improve cellular networks across eastern Ontario.
A brief update was also provided from Jim Pine, EORN Indigenous Lead and Government Relations, on EORN’s proposed Gig project.
Pine said the cell gap project started back in 2014, when area MP’s and MPP’s complained that on their drive to their offices in Ottawa or Toronto, that they couldn’t connect all the way through. It was earlier this year they announced their partnership with Rogers to add additional towers to create more service to the area.
Rogers senior director of product management Sameer Sheth says they will be upgrading the current 13 towers in L&A County, as well as adding 10 to 20 new sites. He says the process to find and approve sights for the towers and to build them will take about a year and a half to two and a half years. Sheth says they should be done across eastern Ontario by mid to the end of 2025.
