Dr. Kieran Moore, Medical Officer of Health with KFL&A Public Health, says KFL&A remains one of the lower risk areas for COVID-19 in southern Ontario during the third wave. He says that he’s very proud of the community, as this is a new enemy, a much more infectious enemy with more variants.
Dr. Moore says even though we are an area with low risk, it is still too high for his liking during this third wave of the virus.
Dr. Moore says the activity at the Kingston Legion, where nine people were infected quickly through a meeting place, where he knows they adhere to the best practices, reminds us it’s best to right now stay in our households, and to not go out, especially if you’re vulnerable by age or any other associated illness.
He went on to say he doesn’t want anyone to get complacent with one dose of vaccine. It does give you protection, but not as much as two doses. When the virus is circulating at this high a rate across Ontario, you still have to adhere to all the best practices to minimize your personal risk.
