Big news for Central Hastings OPP – they have a new Detachment Commander.
Staff Sergeant James Locke has been a proven leader who began his career with the OPP in 1994 in Central Hastings.
He has worked as a Coach Officer, Detective in the Drug Unit, an Area Crime Supervisor, a Platoon Sergeant, Interim Detachment Commander in Bancroft Detachment, as well as being a Level I Incident Commander.
Prior to joining the OPP, he was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy from 1989 till 1992.
Staff Sergeant Locke holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Philosophy from Trent University.
The newly appointed commander says that it is his honour and privilege to be chosen to lead the officers in the communities they proudly serve and that he has spent 26 years at his detachment and is excited for the opportunity to work in conjunction with community partners during these difficult times and beyond.
Superintendent Craig Abrams, Director of Operations of East Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says that Sgt. Jim Locke has been a very active member in the community, participating in various charitable events over the years and is a compassionate leader and always has the wellness of his members at the forefront of his mind.
An anonymous peer during the Detachment Commander hiring process said that, “Sgt Locke’s commitment to his role of supervisor and to his professionalism and pride in his work is always evident. This quality inspires members to pursue their own goals as they feel supported by him as a supervisor but it also encourages member’s acceptance and engagement in the goals of the organization. Sgt Locke’s dedication to his work and the policing community has been established over many years and I am not aware of any who could surpass it. ”
