Community Builders is brought to you by Timʼs Truck and Equipment Services. Herb Hart is a third-generation farmer at Hart Acre Farms. Hart was born and raised in the area and plans on never leaving.
He says he loves where he lives and works. In 2012 Hart and his wife Lisa, built a huge grain elevator and started Hart Acre Grains which provides a market for local farmers to sell their grain, and makes his family community builders in the farming community. Hart says the elevator has certainly been a learning curve as he has had to learn how to market grain on a global stage.
Initially he said they built the elevator because they needed a spot to unload their product since their farm had grown. He thought since they were building something for themselves, why not build something for smaller local farmers as well. He said in the beginning people were unsure if he would ever be able to fill it but to date the grain elevator holds close to 20 thousand tons of product.
Herb says the grain elevator has certainly taken him more into the business world than the farming end of things and notes that he has even received an online degree in grain marketing from the University of Arkansas.
When asked what he is most proud of Herb mentioned that he is excited that he has three children that are showing an interest in the family business and will one day be able to continue the to carry on the legacy.
