The COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly evolving and information is changing quickly as more is known about this virus. These are stressful times for many and it is important to remember that we are all in this together and together we will get through. The importance of social distancing, strict self-isolation, when required, and hand hygiene cannot be emphasized enough. The health care system is preparing and everyone in the community has a
role to play and responsibility in slowing the spread of this virus.
At LACGH they are organizing the Emergency Department to ensure the community has access to emergency care and appropriate assessment, screening, testing and treatment for COVID-19 infection. Everyone needs to make the best use of limited resources such as testing materials and
personal protective equipment.
Telephone Triage, in advance of coming into the Emergency Department, will assist the staff in keeping patients and providers protected. This is a new way of accessing the Emergency Department to improve care.
At all times, if you are experiencing a SERIOUS MEDICAL EMERGENCY, please go directly to the Emergency Department.
Otherwise, if you have a medical emergency please call the Emergency Department Telephone Triage at 613-354-8247 or 1-833-354-3301 either from home or from the parking lot. You will speak with the health care team who will assist you in accessing care appropriately. Some conditions can
be appropriately treated over the phone and do not require an in-person visit. Some COVID-19 assessment can be done outside of the Emergency Department and in the privacy of your own vehicle.
On arrival to LACGH, it is very important that you identify any COVID-19 risks or symptoms to the hospital staff as soon as you arrive. They will assist you with appropriate treatment and testing.
If you have no symptoms, you do not need to and will not be tested. If you have mild respiratory symptoms and are concerned about COVID-19 infection, please STAY HOME and practice SELF-ISOLATION for 14 days. If you are uncertain, please call the Emergency Department Telephone Triage for advice.
If you are concerned that you have been exposed to COVID-19 for any reason or have symptoms of infection there are several additional options in addition to the centre to assist you.
