Original Article: Greater Napanee Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on Kimmetts Side Road earlier today that was later upgraded to a hazardous materials incident, prompting an evacuation perimeter for nearby residents and businesses.
The affected area includes Kimmetts Side Road, Vanluven Road and Frisk Road, with road closures in place by municipal Public Works crews.
About 30 to 40 residents have been temporarily displaced and are being supported at Best & Bash Arena.
The department is working with the Ontario Provincial Police, paramedic services and Kingston Fire & Rescue to manage the scene.
Officials say there is no immediate risk outside the evacuation zone.
Emergency crews continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates through the Town of Greater Napanee online channels and newsletter system.
Residents are advised to avoid the area until further notice.
